Sanga set to get onstage with the Lanerolles

Colombo prepares to explode as a result of pure awesomeness

The countdown has begun and after much anticipation, with the show being postponed once as well, there is nothing that can stop the De Lannerolle brothers getting onstage alongside cricketing legend Kumar Sangakkara on the 5th of February at the Waters Edge.

You have heard what the De Lanerolle Brothers have to say. Now it’s time to check in with Sanga who took time off his busy schedule to speak to DM Life about sharing the stage with Rohan and Ishan.

Tell us about your role in the endeavour with The De Lanerolle Brothers?
I have been a fan of the Lanerolle Brothers and have admired their music for a long time. We are also friends and have known each other for a while. Also, Ishan’s daughter goes to the same play school as my children. Anyway, they proposed the concert after hearing about our Bikes for Life campaign and I said yes immediately because I always like working with good people in order to
support a good cause.

The reason you chose to partner with Rohan and Ishan?
Because they were passionate about the cause and they took the initiative to get the concert off the ground. It’s not easy organising such events and they have put in a lot of hard work, which is a great tribute to them as professional artistes and human beings that they care so much about helping the less privileged in Sri Lanka.

If the audience asked you to sing would you do it?
No chance. I was asked but in the interests of the general public, and to protect my family from acute embarrassment, I declined the invitation.

How has the Bikes for Life campaign progressed since its inception?
The response has been fantastic with lots of donations from all kinds of different people and companies. It’s ultimately a small fundraising campaign but thus far we’ve sent bikes to 1400 families and raised closed to Rs.15 million. We want to hit 2000 bikes in the next few months. The people in those areas are facing a new more certain future with a lot of bravery and enthusiasm. They have immense talent and potential in all spheres of life and we are mainly looking to empower them to be able to pursue their dreams. For me personally, the most rewarding part of this has been meeting the children in those areas and seeing the zest for life they have and the talent that they possess.

Would you consider showbiz in the future?
No!

The show has been postponed and has put a couple of people off, why would people want to reconsider and make it for the show?
I can appreciate the disappointment of the postponement in November, but I hope people will want to come and enjoy a great evening that will help hundreds of families have a better life. We really appreciate everyone’s support and are grateful for all those who have purchased tickets.

Ishan De Lanerolle who is excited as excited can get said, “Rohan and I are very excited to partner with Sangakkara and the Bikes for Life campaign is a fantastic concept. It is all for the next generation who will take this country forward and we will do whatever we can in our capacity to help the youth.”

Tickets priced at 1000/=, 2000/=, 3000/=, 4000/=  and 5000 are available at the Park Street Mews and Commons. Hurry now to avoid disappointment!
