“Rukshan Perera Live In Concert V” For Rotary and Abused Children

January 18th, 2015 is a date to diarise when the Bishop’s College Auditorium will throw open its doors to an intimate evening of music as the inimitable RUKSHAN PERERA gets ready to show off his combustible energy with a dizzying schedule for all music lovers with “Rukshan Perera Live In Concert V”.

The concert is organized by the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan in aid of Rotary Foundation.  This year Colombo Metropolitan is launching a flagship initiative called ‘Lama Piyasa – Ragama Rehabilitation Hospital Project’, which involves the construction and administration of a rehabilitation ward for juvenile victims of abuse and neglect and seek the assistance from Rotary Foundation.

Rukshan Perera has delighted audiences around the world for several years with his commitment to music – he has up to date performed at jazz/pop concerts in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, New Jersey, Boston, Chicago, Texas, Minnesota, Canada, India, Dubai, Afghanistan, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.  This will be his 5th concert since returning home to Sri Lanka from the USA - and for those of you who have yet to experience his magic, this is truly a ‘must see/must feel’ performance.  Rukshan is an ultra-talented musician who has shown time and again that he can move, inspire and impact like no other!

Cooking up a storm on guitar, piano, flute and harmonica, this multi-instrumentalist, composer and singer will showcase his original material with meaningful lyrics, beautiful melodies and sophisticated harmonies to cover topics of current social significance - a tribute song to Nelson Mandela will be performed by the De Lanerolle Brothers with Choro Calibre as the backing choir to the beat of South African drum sounds.  A tribute to this year’s  Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousufzai for her commitment to education in spite of threats from extremists, and a special song dedicated to the abused children at “Lama Piyasa”. Every song will showcase its own style including some of his Acapella compositions, and “Nursery Rhapsody”, a song that takes the form of the famous band Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”. “What Time Is It?”, one of the favorite songs among his fans with Rukshan at the piano and the hilarious “Gossip Queen” with Rajitha with a special act on stage. With many new compositions and other artists to entertain the audience, this will be a concert not to miss.

Look out for Rukshan’s now-famous harmony scatting where he humbly takes the time to demo to the audience who may not be familiar with this musical phrase.  Prepare to be blown away with his unique two-part harmony whistling – another ‘Rukshan-creation’ which has now become his signature style and must be heard to be believed!  A variety of songs and styles can be heard on his CD and the two DVDs that are selling fast in the market.

Rukshan Perera genuinely enjoys contributing to the groove and mood of entertainment par excellence – so be ready to be compelled to clap and to tap, to hop and to bop, and to be riveted by Rukshan’s warm, stirring renditions of his original, unique and memorable compositions.  It promises to be a concert experience hitherto unmatched in Sri Lanka.  See you there!
