The Standard Chartered Colomboscope in its 2nd consecutive year celebrates contemporary literature, music, film and dance bringing together national and international academics, authors, musicians, dancers, filmmakers and actors to reflect upon history in all its complexities.

Organized by the Goethe Institut, Bristish Council and Alliance Francaise, this year’s Colomboscope will feature 34 events.

The theme for this year’s Colomboscope is ‘Making History”, which it shares with the Colombo Art Bienelle.

“We’re looking at the concept of history and remembrance, how we our history is embedded in architecture and how the media has recorded events.” Says Radhika Hettiarachchi, the Festival Curator for this year’s event.

Participants from Germany, England, Egypt, India and local artists from varying disciplines will showcase at the event.

Well known authors present at the event will be German prize winner - Abbas Khider, Orange broadbrand award for New Writers winner - Joanna Kavenna and European Union prize for literature winner - Adam Foulds.

Other notable artists include Serge Noiret, Smriti Daniel, Asoka De Zoysa, Donal McLaughlin, Venuri Perera, Gob Squad and a myriad of diverse and talented performers.

“One of the other intriguing things in terms of the theme “Making History”  is that we tried to find locations that were unusual  but significantly rich in history, for example the Whist bungalow in Modera which was prominent in the 19th century” she added.

Among the other loctions chosen for the events are The Grand Oriental Hotel, New Town Hall, Sri Lanka Foundation, Old Town Hall, St Peters Church - Fort and Rio cinema.

The four day event will commence on the 30th of Jannuary ending with the last show on the 3rd of February 2014.
