10 days of exquisite culinary events are scheduled to take place from 15 to 24 January with Kumar Pereira of MasterChef fame in a debut culinary journey, hosted by experts in experiential travel SriLankaInStyle in partnership with Jetwing Hotels.

The 10 day itinerary spans the luxurious locations of Jetwing Lagoon Negombo, Jetwing Vil Uyana in Dambulla, The Park Street Mews, Jetwing St. Andrews in the tea country and Jetwing Lighthouse Galle.

Corporate supporters of the event are the Official Colombo Host The Park Street Mews, Official Credit Card NTB (American Express), Official Telecommunications Sponsor Dialog Axiata, Official Spice Sponsor Mc Currie Spices and Official Media Sponsor ETV.

In a recent interview with Kumar, he shared some of best advice and personal favorites.

Q: What are the big three cooking mistakes do you find home cooks making?
A: Being over ambitious – better to keep it simple and do it well.
Not being organised.
Letting the pressure get to them – much better to be having fun cooking rather than letting it become a chore.

Q: What tips would you offer readers in a cooking rut, tired of cooking the same thing every day?
A: Be adventurous, have fun and enjoy it – it will show in the food you serve.

Q: When cooking at home, what do you like to prepare for yourself?
A: Whatever is in season,  I love going out to my small garden seeing what is ready for picking and then base my meal around it – or going to the markets and buying whatever is in season.

Q:  It’s said that your mother inspired you most as a young cook, what did you learn from her?
A: I learned to be adaptable, creative, patient and experimental- she was all of these which was amazing considering she was a home cook living in Ceylon [as it was then] in the 60’s and influenced by the food she would have on her travels overseas.

Q: What is your favourite style of cooking and what about that style most appeals to you?
A: Simple, elegant refined tastes presented in an appealing way without being complicated or over fussy/complicated.

Q: What is your favourite cooking gadget?
A: A really sharp knife.
