Jacqueline Fernandez has come out in support of an ailing elephant that is at Manila Zoo, Philippines, and has requested the government to shift it to a sanctuary.

Jacqueline sent a letter to William John T. Perera, who is Consulate General of the Philippines in Colombo Sri Lanka, on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), urging him to do everything he can in regard to the transfer of the elephant named Mali. She requested him to send her to a succulent sanctuary from the inadequate Manila Zoo.

Mali has been confined to a small enclosure at the zoo since she was transferred to Manila from Sri Lanka 36 years ago and has spent most of that time in solitary confinement.

In the letter, the 27-year-old has made a plea for Mali's freedom.

"Me and Mali share a relation together as we both were born in Sri Lanka. This proud native daughter has come to symbolize oppression and cruelty, things that compassionate Sri Lankans and Filipinos condemn," said Jacqueline, who was awarded with Miss Universe Sri Lanka crown in 2006.

"I personally think that you will surely not let Mali suffer here any longer and will give a second chance to her to live her life," concluded the beautiful Bollywood actor.
