Await your ‘Happily N’Ever After’ at the Colombo International School auditorium

The drama club of Colombo International School, under the cherished guidance of their director, Mr.Vinodh Senadeera (Head of Performing Arts), give life to the legendary tales of the Grimm Brothers along with a dab of Gore Vidal and a sprinkle of Rae Shirley, concocting an enchanting evening full of happiness and sadness, leading the production to be titled Happily N’Ever  After. The production will display the immense talents of the large cast encouraged by the expertise of their director.

The evening will open with the abstract play ‘A Visit to a Small Planet’ by Gore Vidal. You will undoubtedly find this play rather confusing, however the mere meaning of an abstract play can be defined as ‘confusing’ therefore there is no need to worry, because this play will tug at your mind and finally hurl its significance at you, clearing your doubts forever. The play centres around a morally and mentally unstable alien (Kreton played by Kenula De Alwis) visiting Earth with the cruel intentions of taking it over and wreaking  havoc. But will he succeed in doing so? This excitement will be followed by the series of famed tales by the Grimm Brothers which include ‘Red Cap’, ‘Golden Goose’ , ‘Ash Puttel’,  ‘Hansel and Gretel’ and  ‘Brother Scamp’.

We have all surely come across these tales at some point or the other in our lives and certainly the magical plot behind these tales have attached themselves to our hearts, therefore these plays shall arouse the exciting child in you, leaving you wanting more.

The cast of ‘Red Cap’ will lead you into the woods to see grandma whilst you get glued to the train of ladies stuck to the golden goose.

Share Ash Puttel’s  pleasure and pain and gasp at the sight of the beautiful slipper.

Sympathise with Hansel and Gretel as they are left alone in the woods, wondering  what would befall them and nod in agreement at the moral values displayed by the cast of ‘Brother Scamp’.

Finally to conclude the evening, glide in the ladies of Shakespeare in the comedy ‘The Merry Regiment of Women’ by Rae Shirley, which will leave you in unstoppable fits of laughter till the very end with its subtle humour. The ladies gather to show their bitter resentment at their creator’s sexist attitude towards them, hoping that they will somehow solve this problem, but the real question is 'how successful will they be?’

This vast plethora of plays were the ideal  platform for the large cast of this production to showcase their talents as budding actors and it is without a doubt that the cast found every rehearsal an opportunity to learn as they strode into the auditorium on most evenings and mornings, laughing and chatting with glee as they supposedly tried to ‘learn their words’.

‘Happily N’Ever After’ at the Colombo International School auditorium at 7:30pm on the 8 May 2015.

Tickets and box plan are now available at the reception of the school.
