From the mosaic floors to the handmade crockery and unique cutlery, Fire at Cinnamon Bey in Beruwala creates a bright and vibrant atmosphere unlike anything you would experience even in Colombo. What’s even more unique about the restaurant is that everything is cooked and baked using fire.

Among the more simple items on their comprehensive menu is the platter consisting of a variety of flat breads sprinkled with sea salt, parmesan and drizzled with olive oil. These breads are best accompanied with their dips which include Garlic Hummus, Roast Onion and Garlic Aioli, Semi Dried Tomato and Garlic Tapenade as well as Herb and Lemon Ricotta. You end up nibbling more than you should but keep in mind that the food is really amazing and filling so try to not go overboard!

Sampath Maddawattege the chef at Fire together with Priyantha Weerasinghe, Executive Chef, Cinnamon Bey create some amazing dishes at the restaurant which include the Fire House Salad. This salad is oozing with simple flavours which include fresh and crunchy Garden Greens, that slight saltiness of Buffalo Mozzarella as well as the familiar sweetness of Corn, Button Mushroom, Broccoli, Green Onion, Asparagus, creamy bits of Avocado, fresh Basil Leaves and slow roast Tomato, roasted Peppers, sweet roasted Pumpkin, caramelised Onion and topped with a zesty Italian Dressing.

Next on my list was their delicious Bengal Tiger pizza. This white pizza or pizza that contains no tomato and made using a hand tossed dough brushed with Garlic Butter is absolutely divine. Slathered with Basil and Coriander Pesto and topped with Tandoori Chicken, Crab Meat, Provolone and a generous helping of Mozzarella and Fresh Coriander, it’sunlike any pizza you would have had. The flavours are actually quite complex and will leave you wanting more.

The food has an American rustic flair to it in terms of the charm of the place to how it is presented while the mozzarella used in their dishes have been sourced from Lily Dairy which is a small dairy farm situated in Giriulla.

Another one of their top dishes is the Lamb Leg Steak. The meat which is marinated in olive oil, garlic and rosemary and twice cooked on a Teppanyaki style grill is juicy and tender and falls off the bone. What more can you ask for in a meat dish! If this hearty meat dish isn’t quite what’s on your mind, another on my list of recommendations at Fire is the Fire Seafood Grill for two. Using a selection of fresh seafood including prawn, lobster, crab, tuna and snapper topped with a garlic butter sauce it is a really simple dish as the flavours are not complex, making the fresh seafood really stand out.

When it comes to desserts, Fire has some really interesting ones to choose from, like their Chocolate Burger which honestly looks too good to eat! The burger or patty is a hazelnut chocolate one while the cheese is like a mango jelly and the ketchup is that of pureed strawberry. It is served with mint cream and walnuts and is absolutely delicious and fun to eat.

What I loved about Fire was the uniqueness in their dishes as well as the warmth of the restaurant. Beruwala is not too far from Colombo especially off the highways so it might be the ideal place to treat your family to a delicious treat and day out.
