Thirty three Miss France 2014 contestants took to the catwalk at Cinnamon Bey, in Beruwala to model the latest collections from designer Dinesh Chandrasena’s latest collection Red Bananah and high street fashion specialists Avirate.

The contestants whose had experienced a week long of pre pageant proved to be enthusiastic models when they wore a variety of clothing from the fashion labels.


 

 

Designer Dinesh Chandrasena who has enjoyed unprecedented success internationally and in Sri Lanka presented a lovely collection of ensembles which included dresses, skirts, pants and little bolero jackets. Using a mix of fabrics Chandrasena had created his own textile designs which were exclusively floral in design.

 

 

Using bright colours such as oranges and purples on muted shades, the fabric manufactured exclusively in Sri Lanka for Red Bananah  had a luxury feel to it. The collection of simple silhouettes  were well cut and tailored with a real European feel to it and would make the transition to the tropics with ease. Catwalk to street walk the collection had a fun and flirty feel to it.

 

 

 

Simple dresses were accentuated with a vibrant splash of colour which took the form of a sash tied at the waist. Pretty tea dresses and shift dresses stood out from the rest. Casual fun clothes for the free spirited and adventurous modern youg woman Chandrasena appears to have struck a winning note.

 

 

High Street fashion specialists Avirate who pride themselves on bringing good quality clothes to the High Street showed off a wide collection which included a combination of sassy, smart and casual clothes.  Ensembles with colour blocking, interesting mix and match of geometric prints and lace sheath dresses added an interesting dimension to the Avirate collection.

 

 

 

Wonderfully cut evening dresses in floaty chiffon with shimmering panels added as embellishments stood out from the rest.  In a move which appeared to pay homage to Herve Leger the he collection also included some dresses with an interesting use of bands or pleats . Long sheath dresses with overlays of lace also made the collection interesting.

The panache of the French models coupled with the functional fashion collections made interesting viewing for the many Colomboites who travelled to Cinnnamon Bey.

Miss France 2013 and first runner up at Miss World 2013 Marine Lorphelin stole the show st the finale of the show, clad in a while and silver batik kandyan ensemble by Darshi Keerthisena topping it off with a peacock inspired necklace with diamonds, emeralds and blue sapphires created by Sifani Jewellers which added sparkle and glamour to an evening of splendid fashion.

    I was eagerly wanting to see a picture of the silver batik kandyan ensemble by Darshi Keerthisena - on Ms France Marine Lorphelin. But was disappointed as there was no photo of the ensemble . Darshi's designs are usually exquisite
