When it comes to bridal dressing, Dhananjaya Bandara is a reputed name. Part of his job is to help choose the right saree for his client. With years of experience up his sleeve, he gave us a little insight on selecting the perfect bridal saree.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do.

I’m a simple human being trying to make the world more beautiful.

As a bridal dresser, do you also help brides to pick out their wedding sarees?

Yes of course. That is the most important thing as a bridal designer. Outlook of the fabrics will represent 50% of the stance of a bride. Fabric needs to be selected according to her body shape, skin tone, the time of the wedding reception and the preferred design of the bride.

How do you know which saree suits best to each bride?

Like I said, it depends on her body shape, skin tone etc. I will give them 5 to 6 alternative options of differently designed sarees for the bride to choose from. And before she buys the saree I will drape it on her body and evaluate the outlook.

As a bridal dresser what’s your signature style?

I have my own style in making brides more stunning and glamorous and I tend to use a lot of classic looks on my brides.

What are some of the worst mistakes a bride could make when picking out her saree?

Some brides try to select sarees by their own and their relatives’ opinion. They will not consider any professional advice. They are only thinking of the glamor of the saree and they don’t have any idea about other factors which contribute to the final outlook.

What advice do you give to your clients regarding their wedding ensemble?

Always try to get an idea or some advice by a professional before making a decision.
