Colours for life’s changing moments
“Colour is a great way of expressing and changing emotions. Colours help people to communicate because they generate conversation. White, which is commonly used is very recessive, but colour can do so much more by encouraging a connection with your home and living spaces and how you live.”
“There is a misconception that colour is scary. In contrast, it is very easy to play with colour particularly if you’re not too ambitious. Colour can help hide features or bring out features; depending on what you want to do. If you have an area that you want to hide, you paint the wall you want to show in a stronger colour and the area you may want to hide in a lighter tone of the same colour. If you want to highlight an area you paint them in a contrasting colour.”
“It is important to encourage people do little things with colour and see the effect. Then they can proceed from there. You can start by working on a small project and then try out more.”
Colour picks for the Tropics
“Slightly cleaner colours are good for a tropical environment as they reflect light well; pale greens, yellows and blues work very well. The richness of the culture also goes well with colours like Indigo which comes from a natural pigment and reflects materials found in a tropical environment.”
Choosing colour
“The amount of natural light is important when deciding a colour for a room. If you want to increase the spaciousness you have to paint it in pale blues. Blue rather than white makes a room feel bigger. Yellow has a longer wave length than white, so yellow reflects more light. If you want to make most of the light that comes into a room, then pale yellow is better.”
