Pet's details -

Name: Cat (1 year – I think!)
Breed: Stray
Owner:  Adilah Ismail (25)

What was the thinking behind naming your pet?

She actually doesn’t have a proper name. We just kept calling her ‘Cat’ and somewhere down the line, it stuck.

What is Cat’s daily routine like?

She’s the first person in the household to have all her meals – one routine which is adhered to strictly. Apart from that, she’s fairly self-sufficient, so no daily routine as such but she makes sure she gets her share of petting in the evening.

What is her favourite snack?

Just fish – She’s a bit of a food snob.

Does she have a particularly favourite place to sleep and hang out?

As a cat, the whole world is her napping-ground but there’s a spinach patch in our garden which she likes curling up under. She’s also recently developed a fondness for sleeping on freshly washed laundry – a habit we’re not too thrilled about, as you can imagine.

Does she like to dress up and take selfies?

Nope – both animal and owner are photo-shy!

Have you always been a pet lover and if so, how did it all start?

I am a huge animal lover. There’s been a series of animals in and out of our house.

Who was your first pet?

Blackie, also a cat (as you can see, naming pets is not one of our family’s strengths!!

What is it like having a pet?

Cats are massive connoisseurs of comfort, remarkably self-sufficient and are almost human in nature. Honestly, it’s very rewarding. Animals have a knack of bringing out the best in us sometimes.

What is bath time like for Cat? Does she love or hate it?

She simply hates it.

How does Cat react when you head out of the house and when you return home?

She’s a cat, so very nonchalant about these things and isn’t overly affectionate. Sometimes (if we’re lucky), she deigns to acknowledge us when we get home.

Could you imagine life without your pet?

I was averse to getting another pet after my last cat died (he was with us for years), but this one walked into our house a few months ago and decided to adopt us. In retrospect, I’m glad she did.

What is the most precious moment you share with Cat?

Whenever I pull an all-nighter to finish up any work, she unfailingly keeps me company. It’s quite comforting and almost therapeutic to have her purring next to me while I work.
