As the world grows more connected and people being able to voice their opinion in manners that were never thought of 50 years ago, some people tend to stick to the more traditional norms and bring out their message more powerfully than the self proclaimed messiahs that run haywire on the internet. Meet some of the members of the cast of V Day, a production that touches on violence against women - a topic that needs serious addressing in present day society.

Viranthi: Since I teach at an all girls school I know the problems faced by girls who go through harassment as they tell me about on an almost daily basis and being a part of V Day helps me to combat the menace.

Salome: V Day is my first experience as an actor, and I can tell you now that it's an amazing role, with an amazing story attached to it and I am honoured... Simply honoured to be playing it! Honoured and ready to take the stage and speak up against violence against women!

Dominic: Harassment is something I strongly stand against so being a part of V Day opens up many avenues of standing up against harassment.

Sathya: I am contributing through dance to make the evening special and since I’ll be the opening act, I’m excited and nervous.

Nilu: Theatre is a very powerful tool and I think this will raise an extremely high level of awareness.

Pasan: I have been a part of V Day before and I am really honoured to be invited again.

Gehan: It’s for a worthy cause and it’s something that happens everywhere even in this day and age, therefore it’s important that we help identify the elephant in the room- and what better way to do it than through theatre.

Anuruddha: Violence against women is something I stand up against severely. I've been a part of V Day since its inception, through acting and directing so I plan to be a part of it for a long time.

Kapila: There are various approaches to combating violence against women and I consider theatre one of the most powerful norms of communication which is why I chose to be a part of V Day.

V Day will take place at the Barefoot Café on the 1sy of April from 7:30 pm onwards. Tickets are available at the Barefoot Gallery.
