Life is always better with a chewy cookie... or two!

Fresh, chewy on the inside, crunchy on the edges... These have to be the key elements of a damn good cookie. Unless you bake them yourself, chances are, you might not get that particular combination. If you are not a baker or just don’t have the time to do so your solution would be The Brick Lane Cookie Company at the Crescat Food Court.

This tiny shop has the most amazing variety of freshly baked cookies to choose from. The goodies range from the Classic range priced at Rs 100 a cookie: Classic Chocolate Chip, Coconut Chocolate Chip, Triple Chocolate, White Chocolate Chip, Double Chocolate and Shortbread Biscuit. While the Luxury Cookies priced at Rs 140 include: Red Velvet, Triple Choc Nutella Burst, Classic Nutella Burst and Cashew Chocolate Chip. The delicious cookies aside they also serve up Desserts, Coffee and Italian Sodas to compliment the cookies.

The Red Velvet Cookie with chunks of white chocolate, milk chocolate and a luxurious red velvet batter really does keep up to its “luxury” range – it is smooth, velvety and just down-right amazing from the first bite. And if you are a fan of cashew nuts, then you must go for the nutty and chocolaty Cashew Chocolate Chip cookie.  The Triple Chocolate Chip cookie is quite heavenly especially if you love to have your chocolate fix. Loaded with just the perfect amount of milk and white chocolate chunks – there really is no better treat for the senses. When you bite into it, all that chocolate just bursts in your mouth! I absolutely loved the simplicity of the Classic Chocolate Chip cookie which was crunchy on the edges and just soft and filled with chunks of gooey chocolate on the inside. The White Chocolate Chip cookie is a lighter treat for your senses even though it is loaded with chunks of white chocolate. This too has the perfect textures of crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Any of these, with a glass of milk, will take you a few notches higher.

The desserts range from Rs 200 to 280 and include Milk and Cookie, Cookie and Cream and Cookie Tower. The coffees (priced between Rs 250 and 280) include Cappuccino, Latte and the interesting Cafe Bombon (a 1:1 ratio of coffee and sweetened condensed milk).  A slightly less decadent treat in terms of beverages are the Strawberry and Peach Italian sodas (Rs 180).I tried out the Strawberry Italian Soda which was light and sweet and refreshing all in one!

The duo behind The Brick Lane Cookie Company are, Amanda and Chathura Jayatissa. They both have their own individual companies – Chathura owns a travel agency focussed on Sports Tourism while Amanda has her own Corporate Training company – but decided that they wanted to venture into a business that they can do together and that is how the idea for baking cookies and opening up their own store came about.

“My husband and I make the dough at home and bring it here to bake,” Amanda says adding, “It is my husband who really loves to bake and I really like to eat – It is a lot more him than me!” She explains that they liked the idea of soft, chewy cookies, they are foodies to the core and since they always bake at home, it only made sense to start up their own cookie shop. Amanda handles the marketing and branding of the business while Chathura sticks to the baking and researching on new ideas for the goodies that they have available at the shop.
Even though they opened just over a month ago, Amanda says that the response has been really good, “It has been a lot more than we anticipated.”

So if it is chewy, fresh cookies you are looking for make a bee-line to The Brick Lane Cookie Company located right between the two escalators at the Crescat Food Court.  They are open between 10am and 7pm. Check them out on Facebook for further details: https://www.facebook.com/tblcookies
