If you live in Mount Lavinia or close by, the idea of having some thin crust pizza might be a welcome treat, especially considering the only other option is the awful, oily pan pizzas with barely any toppings.

Arthur’s Pizza on Galle Road (next to Lion Pub) serves relatively tasty thin crust pizza. It is owned by Lion Pub so if you’d like to grab a chilled drink while nibbling on some pizza this is the right spot. The prices are reasonable too, which is always a bonus.

They have a compact menu, 11 items to be precise, which includes starters, pizzas and one dessert, the latter of which was very impressive. They’ve been in operation for just one month and I’ve been told that they already have a few regulars who walk in. The red walls with modest wooden furniture gives the pizzeria a welcoming and warm feel and at the moment they only offer dine in.

Our tasting kicked off with a Greek Salad (Rs 380). The ingredients were fresh and crunchy to the bite and tasted really good. The only downside was that I wasn’t convinced that they’d used feta.

We tried out three pizzas on the day which included a Chicken Nai Miris Pizza (Rs 950), Seafood Pizza (Rs 1,250) and a Pizza Margherita (Rs 850). The thing about their pizzas is that they are not typically traditional Italian pizzas but they are definitely tasty.

The Chicken Nai Miris was my pick as it was spicy (although not nai miris hot) while also being flavoursome. The chicken is marinated in a nai miris sauce which gives it a slight kick while adding karapincha (curry leaves) as part of the topping was a nice touch – the ideal accompaniment with a chilled beverage on a warm day.

The Seafood pizza had plenty of finely chopped seafood and a good helping of pineapple which gave it a real tropical feel. The Margherita was tasty but I felt that it could have had more cheese. I did like that the basil leaves were baked and crunchy which although not authentic gave it a nice twist.

The best part of the meal was Arthur’s Chocolate Biscuit Pudding (Rs 270). It is homemade which you can tell from the first bite thanks to the generous amount of rich dark chocolate. I’d rate it just second to my mum’s!
