The name says it all. This all girl band with immeasurable talent is made up of vocalists, DJ’s, drummers, percussionists and lots more. Made by one UK’s most famous female DJ’s, Miss Kelly Marie, High on Heels was established back in 2002. Offering the ultimate live music experience, High on heels is a unique concept in the world of live entertainment that offers tailored events where they perform classic covers and original tracks. These female artists have combined their talents to offer a spectacular entertainment experience.

High on Heels will be performing alongside all the hottest DJ’s which Sri Lanka has to offer on the 23rd of August at The Kingsbury at the Axe Blast 2014.

1. Brief history on the band ‘High on Heels’?

High On Heels is a collective of female artists, musicians and DJs - it’s an electrifying and exciting addition to the world of live entertainment that was put together almost 10 years ago. We’ve worked and travelled all over the world, performing for luxury and nightlife brands including Hed Kandi, Ministry Of Sound, Nikki Beach, Pacha and Redken. Our artists are all successful in their own right - talented musicians and vocalists who have played for stars such as Adele, Madonna and Jessie J. We have DJs, vocalists, drummers, percussionists, trumpet, saxophone, violin and bass. Our sets range from classic covers and high-energy party performances to Café Del Mar lounge sets and original releases - the sound of High On Heels is unique and offers the ultimate live music experience.

2. The reason behind the name of the band?

The name came from a lyric in one of our original songs when we collectively wrote as Soul 8 Productions and released a track called Supabad with our vocalist Martay. Martay had been performing with me as her DJ and after meeting so many talented female musicians, we decided to bring everyone together as a collective and High On Heels was born.

3. Greatest musical/non musical influences on your own music?

We have had many influences musically from classical, jazz, soul, afro, funk and of course House Music. Collectively, we like many artists and musicians for many reasons - Beyoncé, Chaka Khan, Basement Jaxx, Adeva, Neeton Shopra to name a few. Beyoncé for her performances and all-female band Basement Jaxx for their ultra-talented collective of singers.

4. What’s the best and worst thing about playing at clubs?

The smoking in clubs used to be a big problem. Luckily this only happens in a small amount of places nowadays. We all love to perform outside - music and sunshine is the best mix.  The best part of club performances is the audience - if you’re in a club, you’re normally there to party!

5. Some noteworthy performances?

High On Heels has performed across the globe - Room Beijing, Pacha, Karma Kafe Dubai and Cavalli Club were all great. We then have residencies at global locations with Nikki Beach and a regular show at the Arts Club London.  We have performed for 1000’s of people, working with brands such as Elle Style Awards, Swarovski and Harley Davidson. One of the best events we did was in Barcelona at VMworld when we performed before Taio Cruz. The audience was amazing it was the perfect event.

6. What to expect and what original tracks lined up for the Axe Blast 2014?

Axe is known for throwing someone of the grandest parties around the world. The folks at AXE Sri Lanka have got us all excited about AXE Blast 2014 – a party that they assure us is all set to be the biggest blast of the year. Colombo will dance to the tunes of our original tracks including Simply The Best, Ordinary Day and a cover of Gypsy Woman as well as the brand new single coming from Miss Kelly Marie feat Martay ‘Let Me Love You’. Joining hands with some of Colombo’s hottest DJ’s, we look forward to rocking Colombo on the 23rd of this month..
