Weekends are always fun as you can walk in to events that are happening in and around the city. This weekend is once again packed with another interesting lineup of events and a new movie to make things even more exciting. 

Movies 

Kong: Skull Island to be screened from today 

“Kong: Skull Island”, a 2017 American monster film by Warner Bros. Pictures is a reboot of the King Kong franchise and is the second film in Legendary’s MonsterVerse. It stars an ensemble cast consisting of Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson, Jing Tian, Toby Kebbell, John Ortiz, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Shea Whigham, Thomas Mann, Terry Notary and John C. Reilly. 

A trip back to the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes, the new film will reportedly follow a team of explorers (led by a character played by Tom Hiddleston), who venture deep inside the treacherous, primordial island to find the leader's brother and a mythical serum, confronting extraordinary creatures along the way. 

The film returns to the roots of the great monster movies in at least one key aspect: it understands the appeal of these movies as a reminder of humanity’s relative insignificance in the face of horrors it can’t possibly comprehend. The distinction of the Kong myth captures the heart and terror of what films like Godzilla which have become so beloved. Every time Kong’s island has been invaded since the dawn of cinema, it’s been by those seeking glory or profit. And now, in the case of Skull Island, it’s time for retribution.

Open Mic Night @ Orion City 

Open Mic Nights are a great way to gain experience, increase confidence and meet new singing friends. It’s a chance to sing-a-long with your friends or anybody in the audience. My Dream School @ Good Market, Racecourse Colombo 

The next ‘My Dream School - Good market day’ aims at raising funds to support kids in St. Mary's Kanishta Vidyalaya, Seeduwa. The MDS team will be visiting this school on March 25 with gift packs for students and educational supplies for the school.

Kidney Walk 2017 @ Arcade Independence Square 

Kidney Walk 2017 is a project organised by the Rotary Club of Colombo Central together with the Rotaract Club of Edulink International Campus - RCEIC in view of the World Kidney Day which falls on the 2nd week of March. The proceeds of this walk will be in aid of a project which aims to establish water purification Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants to provide clean drinking water for those in need.

Diversity Walk @ Pettah 

The Diversity Walk will navigate the multi-ethnic, multi religious commercial labyrinth of Pettah and will attempt to uncover its fascinating colonial history and the transition to its current state. The Diversity Walk will be conducted by Prof. Dr. Asoka Mendis De Zoysa and will start from the Fort Railway station and wind its way through the hustle and bustle of Pettah, past the street vendors with their brightly coloured wares and diverse aromas through 2nd Cross St., Prince St., Keyser St., the Red Mosque, Kaymans Gate, Gabos Lane, Sea St., Ginthupitiya ending in Wolfendhal. 

This session will be conducted in English medium.
