Lanka Comic Con launches new event, The Geek Xmas Market 

Biggest Geek Shopping Event in Sri Lanka, this Holiday Season 

On the 4th of December, Lanka Comic Con will present a new event, the Geek Xmas Market. 

The Geek Xmas Market Is a shopping event for people interested in geek merchandise (Batman, Harry Potter, Death Note, etc…). 17 different geek vendors will be present. Two international brands are also taking part; Lego and HotWheels. 

Shoppers can expect collectibles, toys, posters, comic books, shirts, jewelry, and even handmade pieces by local artists. 

Additionally, for the first time in Sri Lanka, there will be a Collectibles art exhibition, organized by Geek Club of Sri Lanka's Collectors Page. Geek Collectibles are art pieces dedicated to Geek intellectual properties, such as Batman and the X-Men. 

"We wanted to put it [the collector’s hobby] out there," said Collector’s Page co-founder, Shanil Wannakuwatte. "For people to say ‘hey this is what I am into, does anybody else share this?" 

The market will have a festival atmosphere, with family-friendly games and activities. One among these will be a LARP-ing or sword fighting tournament, using child-safe weapons. 

"We rebuild medieval weapons using foam," said Johann Balasuriya, head of the LARP Guild of Sri Lanka. "No one gets hurt, but we have all the fun of sword fighting." 

The sword fighting tournament will involve both one-on-one duels, as well as a large Game-of-Thrones-style fight, between two small armies. 

There also going to be two interactive presentations by digital artists Prabath Wijayantha and Waruna Weligamage, and a workshop with photographer Prasanna Welangoda on how to shoot collectibles. 

The Geek Xmas Market will be happening at Trace Expert City in Maradana, on December 4th.
