Mother – Daughter cook off at the Water’s Edge

Every year we’ve seen different events conducted in celebration to the annual Mother's Day around the country. This time, The Water’s Edge has something exciting and exhilarating – or should I say an entire month devoted for mothers!  

This time around apart from their yummy “Best Mom’s Sunday Brunch” where you can indulge in an afternoon of delicious gourmet dishes, you can also win loads of prizes from The Cutting Station, Ariyana Spa, Emcee Travels, Knorr and much more on Sunday the 8th of May from 11:00am onwards @ The Pranzo for only 3750 LKR Nett Per person. 

You’d also get Waters Edge chefs on site for all the tips, tricks and advice to master your recipes for a cook off. 
I had the amazing opportunity to speak to both the Executive chef – Mr. Samarasekara and of course the Marketing Manager – Ms. Dema. 
Here is the scoop!

Tell us a little about this Mother-daughter cook off?

 
Every year we hold the annual Mother’s Day brunch, but we wanted to bring out an ambience that shows the love and appreciation for the entire month than just limiting it to simply one day. So this year for the very first time, with our partners Knorr and Euro Kitchen, we’ve come up with this cook off on the 29th of May where the chosen six teams will battle against each other to perfect that “chicken dish” using the Knorr ingredients provided to them. 

What inspired you to do this? 
We wanted to try out something new, rather than simply having the Brunch, we wanted to make it feel like mother’s day doesn’t just simply end with that that there’s more to look forward to. Also the fact that our chefs have won numerous awards at a Singapore culinary competition, and with their tricks of the trade to help out the mothers to get their recipes done for the competition. We are inspired by how Master Chef works, the whole challenging aspect of it, the competition it’s all elating and intriguing and we wanted to provide that platform. 

What sort of dish do you expect? 
It has to be a chicken dish, and one of the three Knorr ingredients needs to be used is the Chicken Cube, malifish mix, or the chicken powder mix. Basically the dish needs to be wholesome with the vegetables and carbohydrates along with the meat. The dish is not simply judged upon its taste but also its presentation, the healthy factor and other aspects will be awarded points.

Anything special happening on the 29th for dinner and the brunch? 
There is definitely gonna be an amazing variety of salads, main dishes and a bountiful array of desserts that’ll satisfy your sweet cravings. And for the dinner on the 29th of May, there will be a four course dinner.

What are the terms and conditions?


The terms and conditions are easy; the event will be open only for Mother – Daughter teams. Daughter needs to be between the ages of 8-13 by the 29th of May 2016. The applicants will be selected based on creativity, presentation and uniqueness of the recipe by an esteemed panel of judges. The applicants will be notified via e- mail/ phone on the 24th of May ( registration is Free)
