Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Sri Lanka is the first international fashion week to take place in the country. Pepped to be the ultimate platform for showcasing Sri Lanka’s flourishing fashion and apparel industry as well as homegrown talent, the fashion week will be a stunning curation of runway shows and exhibitions as well as forums and mini-talks that share exciting new fashion intel for anyone and everyone. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Sri Lanka will be taking place from the 27th – 29th of October 2017, at the Mercedes-Benz Centre for Excellence at Dimo 800 in Colombo. The key runway shows and the main conferences focusing on the business of fashion will be ticketed events best suited for fashion and apparel industry circles. Meanwhile, a lighter approach to fashion presented through rerun catwalks, exhibitions and mini-talks is open to the public, and will be held over the weekend as ‘Mercedes-Benz Fashion Experience Weekend’. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Experience Weekend has now been announced as open for public inquiries and registrations.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Fashion Week in general, incorporates a multitude of fashion shows and activities which offer the visitor many views into the fashion industry. Ranging from young design talent showcases, contemporary fashion runways, pop-up stores featuring one-of-a-kind pieces designed by homegrown talent, cutting-edge collaborations between technology and traditional craft and the new innovations happening across Sri Lanka’s massive apparel industry. The festival will also attract an international audience including bloggers, designers, sustainable fashion experts, fashion makers, media, educationalists, brands, fashion labels as well as fashion and design followers. Conceptualised by AOD in partnership with the Dimo- the official custodians of the Mercedes-Benz brand in Sri Lanka, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is set to take place highlighting the Sri Lanka’s fashion heritage, local brands and upcoming talent to this audience of local and international fashion enthusiasts.
The four day runway show will feature 3 main pillars that compose the local fashion sphere. Opening with ‘A New Sri Lankan Style’, the show will feature the new aesthetics unique to the island highlighting the use of cutting edge fashion design with low-tech traditional craft by featuring designers from across the island. Day 2 will focus on the home-grown design talent to present labels made and designed in Sri Lankaand will be attended by a global audience of fashion authorities in buying, designing, retailing and media to highlight Sri Lanka’s apparel industry reaching new heights. Day 3 will focus on Emerging Talent by giving young design graduates a platform to showcase their work and concluding the Fashion Week with the AOD Graduate Showcase.
