Colombo Fashion Week introduces CFW Frame to showcase artists with unique points of view

Colombo Fashion Week (CFW) will introduce for the first time, CFW Frame, a platform that showcases the work of artists with unique points of view, at the upcoming HSBC CFW Resort 2016 Show. In association with ARTRA, Sri Lanka’s leading art magazine, CFW Frame will present two exhibitions by Branka Ridicki and Dominic Sansoni on 2 and 3 October 2015 at Villa Landesi by Jetwing, Galle Fort.

Regarded as the backbone of the Sri Lankan fashion industry, CFW believes that fashion itself is an art form, and seeks to innovate ways in which other forms of art can be celebrated on its platform – from photography to fine art to architecture. At each CFW season, CFW Frame will continue to feature the work of some of the most recognized artists, and will provide a platform for their work to be appreciated by discerning guests as well as visitors.

Branka Ridicki is a Croatian artist who currently lives and works fulltime in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Ridicki studied art history and Italian language and literature in Zagreb, Croatia before going on to work in a variety of media, including painting and film. Her paintings have been the subject of solo and group exhibitions, including the 10th Cairo Biennial, 2007; Mahmoud Mokhtar Museum, Mahmoud Mokhtar Cultural Centre Cairo, VIAGGIO, 2007; Museum of Ancient Art, Zadar, Croatia, VIAGGIO, 2010 and Paradise Road Gallery.

For the first edition of CFW Frame, Ridicki will present Cityscapes and Forts, a series of paintings inspired by the architecture and history of the Galle Fort. “My previous research inaugurated open spaces, urban heritage, lights and colours of the Mediterranean, so now, my focus is to deconstruct the life of the town in the context of its history; history of different cultures overlapping, in particular European and Asian cultures,” says Ridicki, about her exhibition.

Dominic Sansoni has been a professional photographer for over 30 years with an emphasis on documentary and travel assignments. He was educated in creative photography at West Surrey College of Art & Design and graduated from Cambridgeshire College of Arts & Technology, in the United Kingdom. Sansoni’s work captures the quintessential Sri Lankan images of architecture, festivals and public and domestic spaces, to showcase the breadth and richness of cultural heritage and contemporary lives on the island nation.

Sansoni’s exhibition for CFW Frame will be a series of black and white portraits that he has captured over the past 30 to 40 years of friends, writers, actors and artists.

The fourth edition of CFW Resort will take place from 27 September to 4 October 2015, at the iconic Galle Fort. In addition to featuring the collections of Sri Lankan and international designers on the runway, CFW will present a week-long series of activities together with select boutiques and restaurants within the fort. In this way, CFW will highlight the Galle Fort as an important tourist destination, and showcase its history, architecture and many attractions.
