12 Places to get Maxi Dresses and Skirts from in Colombo
Maxi dresses and skirts are the type of clothing that can fit any occasion, whether it is a Christmas dinner or an outdoor summer picnic. They are also the type of clothing that can make styling effortless!
With the dawn of the New Year drawing close, prepare the fashionista in you to splurge on maxi dresses and skirts to make 2016 the most stylish year ever!
But the most difficult part about maxi dresses and skirts is the buying part of it and that is exactly why I have a list prepared of shops you can buy maxi dresses and skirts from in Colombo!
1. The Factory Outlet
The Factory Outlet is known for its reasonably priced clothing and the pricing wasn’t a disappointment. The skirts were priced at Rs. 900 upward and the dresses were priced at Rs. 1200 upward. The collection, however, was limited to only casual wear.
This skirt came with a side slit and was available in other colors too.
Overall, the collection was limited and pricing was reasonable. So if you’re looking for casual maxi dresses and skirts, you might want to check The Factory Outlet out.
2. Odel
Over the past few years Odel has created a name for itself. So I decided to check Odel out too. The dresses, in contrast, were mainly beach-y and sleeveless, priced at Rs. 2450 upward.
This paisley print dress cost nearly Rs. 3000.
This, on the other hand, was pricier, costing nearly Rs. 3500.
Overall, the collection could get better.
3. Softwave Gallery Boutique
I had always been aware of the existence of this store as it is located right after The Factory Outlet down Havelock Road, but I had never seen what it had got to offer.
So I walked in and was greeted by employees who were really friendly and helpful. They had mostly short dresses, but the store did offer a unique collection with limited pieces of each design.
The dresses were one size fit all, so the fit was not great and required alteration. This dress was priced above Rs. 3500.
This magenta georgette skirt was priced at Rs. 2100 and was effortless to pull off.
Softwave Gallery Boutique has dresses with sleeves and mostly evening wear. So, you might want to give it a shot for the upcoming December night outs.
4. Midnight Divas
I never planned on checking Midnight Divas out for maxi dresses and skirts, but to my surprise, they had about three evening wear maxi dresses.
I checked their website out and they do have a selection of maxi dresses that can be purchased online.
5. Bella’s Arcade
Bella’s Arcade has been up and running since the past three years. It’s a cozy little place with imported clothing, run by friendly ladies.
They have a variety of maxi dresses, especially semiformal.
However, they had no maxi skirts.
This evening dress was priced at Rs. 3800.
6. GFlock
GFlock was pumped when I walked in, with loud music being streamed from every corner. The maxi dresses and skirts were priced at Rs. 2500 upward.
Their collection comprised mostly of casual wear and had a limited choice for evening wear which was quite a disappointment.
7. Shay Int.
Shay Int.’s Instagram has done enough justice to prove the store has quite a collection of maxi dresses (with and without sleeves) and skirts.
So, I decided to check it out.
There surely was quite a selection, but the number of pieces per size was limited. In my opinion, this is a good thing because then, you wouldn’t bump into anyone wearing the same dress as you!
This dress was definitely one of my favourites.
The maxi skirts are limited in design, but the quality felt great.
Price range - Rs. 2000 upward
8. Handcrafted Batiks by SALT
Walking into this store was a pleasant experience as we were greeted by a really friendly lady at the front desk. She told us the dresses ranged from Rs. 5500 to Rs. 6000. Plus, they are all made with batik and fabric that has been tied and dyed.

9. Anouki
Those who have shopped at Anouki have always had something positive to tell me about the store. I went through their Facebook page which doesn’t obviously give away all of their collection, but the store definitely does have maxi dresses.
10. Radisi
Radisi is a designer wear store that promises to offer glamorous and exclusive tailored clothing with effortless style for today’s uncompromising, smart, urban women.
I was greeted by a friendly sales assistant who told me there was only one maxi dress design in store and the design was really, really elegant and perfect for a fancy dinner.
11. Azarya
Azarya’s e-boutique displays about 5 designs for evening wear. You might wanna check it out for your NYE outfit. Their website is: www.azarya.lk.
12. Abstract
Abstract was a disappointment. The mannequin displayed maxi skirts, but there was no stock and there was a very limited quantity of maxi dresses to choose from.
This plain black maxi dress was priced above Rs. 2000.
On a general note, Colombo does have an array of shops to purchase maxi dresses and skirts from, but they might not fit your taste. So, you might end up doing a little shopping excursion too!
However, you do have the alternative of buying one online from sites such as www.asos.com.
OR
Just stick to the classic combo of a pair of jeans teamed with a comfy tee!
