Hunting for cookies on V Try – U Buy seemed so much fun, until we actually set out! Contrary to hearing that Cinnamon Grand has good cookies, their coffee shop did not have any, and Cinnamon Lakeside sold only in packs.
Put off early in the quest, our next two stops, Barista and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf proved rather satisfactory. Do check out the ratings for more. Owing to prior experience, we knew Café Eklektik at Goethe Institut had some yummy choc chip cookies, but were disappointed to find out that it was closed when we visited on Tuesday evening!
Randomly stumbling upon cookies at Caffe Pascucci, we were pleasantly surprised that the lowest priced cookie on our hunt was such a lovely treat.
The cardamom shortbread at Milk & Honey Café is our pick this week, for more reasons than just taste. Being a healthy option, which is rather unlikely for a cookie, it was subtle in flavour, soft and not too sweet. Let us know what you think!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Barista (No.31, Horton Place, Colombo 07) |
|

Price | Rs.253 |
Value for money | Low |
Variety | Apart from the chocolate chip cookie, Barista sells an almond white chocolate cookie, which is priced the same. |
Overall | The chocolate chip cookie, which we tried, was slightly dry and not at all chewy. It was too hard and definitely not worth the price we paid. However, it was quite a large cookie. We would not go back to Barista for this cookie. |

Variety | The Coffee Bean also sells a chocolate chip cookie, which is priced the same. |
Overall | This cookies tastes exactly like a cracker with a rich dark chocolate flavour. It is quite large in size and we would agree that the cookie is decently priced. Would go perfectly with a mug of coffee on the side. |
Chocolate Chip Cookie - Caffe Pascucci (No.95, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 07) | |
Taste | * * * * |
Price | Rs.50 |
Value for money | High |
Variety | Butter cookies and ginger cookies are also on the list and are priced at Rs.20 each. They are sized like an average biscuit. |
Overall | This was a very tasty cookie and definitely worth the price paid. It isn’t too chewy but it strikes the perfect balance between not-too-rich and just the right amount of sweet. |
Cardamom Shortbread Milk and Honey Café (No.12, Barnes Place, Colombo 07) |
|
Taste | * * * * * |
Price | Rs.120 + service charge |
Value for money | Average |
Variety | The café also serves a double chocolate chip cookie and a chocolate oat cookie, which are priced at Rs.90 + service charge. |
Overall | This was a very soft and crumbly cookie with a nice and rather subtle cardamom flavour. And the best part about this cookie is that it melts on your tongue. We weren’t expecting a subtle flavour because cardamom alone is quite strong and distinct. |
If the restaurant has a chain of outlets, the rating here is specific to the mentioned outlet. V Try – U Buy is not a connoisseur’s report, but is designed for the common man’s benefit.
