Thomas’ Preparatory School, Kollupitiya is a concert that was inaugurated in 2018 and features students from a variety of activities such as the Western Band, School Choir, Dancing Society, Hewisi Band, and the Karnatic Music Group together with Past Prepites collaborating to bring you an evening of music and entertainment. The show promises listeners of a musical journey taking you from east to west, and through the ages, giving everybody something to enjoy. An added feature is the displays presented by Invitee Schools, with 2020 featuring the performances of Methodist College, Kollupitiya.
The Orchestra consists of students ranging from the ages of 9-16 years and have all attended multiple overnight camps where the main focus was on rehearsing their songs and better acquainting themselves with their instruments. The boys have been tirelessly practicing day and night for over 8 months to present to you a taste of what youthful talent could do if harnessed correctly, teaching not only the values of music, but also the morals and ethics that are imparted by a committed and dedicated trainer, Mr. Saranga Wikramage.
A special item, a tribute to “Dr. Premasiri Kemadasa,” has also been put together to pay homage to one of the first Sri Lankan composers to introduce fusion music to this country, hence inspiring the Prep School Boys to follow in his footsteps at “Gandhar 2020.” The word fusion really takes shape in this concert as music from western pop meets Indian Traditions both from the North and South, entwined with Sri Lankan melodies and the wonderful sounds of orchestral instruments, creating a unique blend that would make any listener proud to both hear and see our boys pull it off in style.
This year’s performance will take place on the 14th of February 2020 at the Bishop’s College Auditorium, with tickets available at the Prep School Office priced at Rs. 2500, Rs. 2000, Rs. 1000 and Rs. 750 (Balcony).
