views 439The Children's Programme for the Fairway Galle Literary Festival 2018 will take place on 27 and 28 January at the Thomas de Gall School in Galle. The events consist of a variety of activities designed for three age groups: 5 – 7, 8 – 11 and 12+.
‘The programme for 2018 will explore different storytelling methods from cultures around the world such as Sri Lanka, Japan, Africa, Europe and the UK. The focus is on giving young people a lot of practical experience in creating their own work, using a variety of forms such as poetry, prose and drama,” states programme coordinator Tracy Holsinger.
The featured, award-winning children’s and young adult authors are Jehan Aloysius, Ute Krause, Tahira Sheriff and Deshan Tennekoon. In addition, artists Mika Tennekoon and Firi Rahman and spoken word looper artist Larry T. Hill will facilitate sessions alongside early learning specialists Seema Omar, Tehani Chitty and Shimali Perera. The programme features an introduction to Eastern and Western classical music by Ursula Nelius of Serendip Strings, and will include interactive role-playing games hosted by Tracy Holsinger, Arun Welandawe-Prematilleke and Kimaya de Silva.
The final activities on both days consist of sharing performances and other created work with parents and friends. The ticket prices range from Rs.2,500.00 to Rs.3,500.00 per day and include lunch and two snacks. Participants can look forward to two stimulating, energetic days filled with literature, music and art.
