The Right Toothbrush: Why Soft Is The Right Choice

We all tend to think that if we brush a little harder and a little faster – we would actually be doing our teeth a favour.

In fact, too much brushing and too hard brushing can do just the opposite, especially with the wrong toothbrush!

A lot of us tend to use a hard toothbrush as we get older and this decision could actually be bad for your teeth! Our teeth are coated with protective enamel that fights off acid formed in our mouth and hard toothbrushes with thick bristles tend to scrape away that enamel, damage your teeth and push back your gum. It can cause sensitivity and too much brushing can even lead to cavities.

So ideally, it’s best to use a soft toothbrush as it’s safer on your teeth and gums.

Why use a soft brush?

·    Avoids brushing your teeth too hard
·    Prevents your gums being pushed back and exposing tooth roots
·    More gentle on your gums
·    Easier to tackle the curves of your teeth and gums and get into the crevices
·    Protects and preserves tooth enamel which is essential in preventing tooth decay!
·    Removes plaque and tartar build up without damaging your teeth.

The right way to use a toothbrush?

Start at the back and brush in gentle circles while moving to the front of your mouth.
Vigorous side to side brushing can irritate your gums.

How to care for your toothbrush

·    Rinse brush thoroughly after each use.
·    Allow brush to air dry away from other toothbrushes to prevent spread of bacteria
·    Replace toothbrush once in every 3 months

Do you know?
