Vanessa Paradis thinks you can be unhappy in a relationship despite being in love.
The model and actress - who split from long-term partner Johnny Depp in June - spoke in an interview just two days before their separation was announced.
The 39-year-old star told the September issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine: "Love is the strongest and most fragile thing we have in life.
"Nothing is ever for sure, but when something in love doesn't work from the beginning, it's never going to work. Don't push it."
She continued to explain that despite having problems in a partnership, sometimes love makes you think you can work those differences out.
She continued "When you meet the love of your life, it's just obvious and natural and easier. You keep learning all the time.
"Sometimes you could be in an unhappy relationship; you are very much in love with someone, but it's making you unhappy and you think things can change and you can work it out."
The 49-year-old actor had two children - Lily-Rose, 13, and Jack, 10 - with Vanessa over their 14 years together.
Johnny has since been romantically linked to his 'Rum Diary' co-star Amber Heard.
Vanessa meanwhile has described the qualities she likes in a man.
She revealed: "My type is obviously creative. Creative, with burning eyes and a pretty mouth."
