Adele has been targeted by a slew of sick internet trolls following the birth of her son.

The Rolling In The Deep singer found herself targeted by several Twitter uses who posted disgusting and hurtful messages about her baby boy just minutes after news of the birth was revealed.

The most disturbing message came from a user called name Vanessa Bieber, who wrote: 'Aw Adele gave birth to a baby. Is it fat and handicapped lol? Just murder it already lol.'

Another Twitter user wrote: 'I’ll go see her in the UK and kill her', while another retweeted the message, adding: 'And kill her baby.'

Many other users wrote that Adele would have more material to write about if she suffered from post-natal depression, or if her son died, while others said they hadn't realised Adele was pregnant because she is overweight.

Adele, 24, is not the first star to be targeted by trolls on social networking sites such as Twitter.

Champion swimmer Tom Daley was forced to involve the police after a Twitter user suggested his late father would have been disappointed by his performance at the London 2012 Olympics.

And Gary Barlow found himself the target of trolls following the tragic death of his baby daughter, who taunted him after the devastating news was announced.

It was revealed on Saturday that Adele had welcomed her first child with boyfriend Simon Konecki on Friday night, although the singer has yet to officially confirm the birth.

According to reports, Adele is said to be 'ecstatic' by the baby's arrival, with a source quoted as saying: 'Adele and Simon are ecstatic at their new arrival. She was over the moon that they were expecting their first child together.'

Her spokesman said of the reported birth: 'We are not releasing a statement at this time. No comment.'

However, Adele's collaborative partner Dan Wilson told the Daily Mirror she is doing well following the birth, and will focus on the birth and the new chapter of her life for her next record, which she is expected to release next year.

He said: 'Adele has never been happier. We have exchanged a couple of emails. Adele is in a good place. I am concentrating on writing as many songs as I can.'

Adele recently released the theme tune for the latest James Bond movie Skyfall - her first offering since her worldwide hit record 21 back in 2011.

But despite the huge success of the track, Adele won't be present at the world premiere of the film, set to take place in London on Tuesday night with guests including Prince Charles and Camilla, because of her new arrival.

A source told The Sun: 'Adele doesn't want to leave her little boy's side - it's as simple as that. Now he's here, she can't bear heading out without him, even to hobnob with royalty.'
Adele announced her pregnancy back in June, writing on her official blog: 'I'm delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together.

'I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx'
