Sanath on swinging out of JDJ

Sanath Jayasuriya performed a salsa number with partner Suchitra to Twist from Love Aaj Kal. So impressive was the performance of this man with two left feet that the judges — Karan Johar, Madhuri Dixit and Remo — got up and did the twist. But that wasn’t good enough and the Sri Lankan was voted out. His first reaction after the elimination was, “It is disappointing.”

Sanath, who used to rehearse in Sri Lanka and perform in India, said, “It is unfortunate that I got eliminated on public voting. But this is life. It is hard for my choreographer Suchitra because she is very talented and hard working.”

Sanath feels he could get the correct rhythm and he had difficulty in mouthing the songs despite having memorized them. “Singing and dancing together is very difficult. The moves are very difficult. Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh) wished me luck for the show but I didn’t learn any steps from him.”

Sanath, who is friends with his fellow contestants, said, “The competition is tough. There are many good dancers like Isha, Shibani and Gurmeet. It will be difficult to select [the winner].”

The Sri Lankan MP has had his share of dancing for now and refuses to match steps with his wife despite having mastered several steps during the reality show. “This phase of my life in JDJ was enough. I can’t dance.”

Sanath’s family was worried when he announced his decision to participate in the show. “But when they saw me dancing, they were happy,” he said. He doesn’t rule out anchoring a show and coaching in the future. “If something interesting appears, I will think. It’s not a bad idea after all,” he said.

  1. Calistus Jayatilleke says:

Good that he realized he can't dance. In the same way, it is hoped that he will come to know that he can't do cricket commenteries in English witout "murdering the Queen". So, let him stick to what he knows best : Cricket and do his duty to his voters as an MP.

  2. Ajay says:

He was a very brave guy then, and he was very brave to go this show, and braver still to admit openly that he can't dance. Good for him.
