KRISTEN Stewart's affair with married director Rupert Sanders lasted more than six months, reports say.
Stewart described the fling as a "momentary indiscretion" in her public apology to partner Robert Pattinson.
But Sanders' brother-in-law Leopold Ross told People magazine that it lasted "from the last half of filming and all through post-production, clear into last week".
Radaronline.com calculated that, since the movie shot from September to December 2011, that meant the affair began late last year.
Ross, brother of Sanders' actress wife Liberty Ross, said his sister had sacrificed her own career so she could raise her two children while Sanders pursued his directing career.
"She made some sacrifices for something she thought was worth it," he said. "Now she knows, right? Five minutes from her home..."
Both Pattinson and Stewart have moved out of his home in LA's Los Feliz neighbourhood, Radaronline reported, and are not even speaking to each other.

Now a devastated Robert Pattinson is reportedly finding solace in the arms of strangers.
The Sun reports that Pattinson's post-break-up behaviour has his friends worried.
A source close to the actor told the UK tabloid: "Robert has resorted to asking strangers out to keep him company.
"He went out for drinks with a woman staying in his hotel and he told her it was 'ridiculous' he had nobody to talk to. He’s been spending most of his days off playing computer games."
Pictures of Pattinson's girlfriend of three years kissing a married director shattered his world.
According to gossip sites, he was all set to propose to Stewart before Us Weekly exposed her affair with Rupert Sanders, her director on Snow White and the Huntsman.
Although she claimed her affair with Sanders was brief, Sanders' brother-in-law claimed it had been going on for six months.
According to Radar Online, Pattinson is determined to confront Sanders.
"Rob wants to have a man-to-man chat with Rupert to find out exactly what happened between him and Kristen," a source told the gossip site.
Several reports claim that Stewart and Sanders never had sex and Sanders' own father claims the director's marriage to model Liberty Ross will survive.
"From what I gather nothing really happened and it is all a lot of fuss about nothing. I should imagine it was something very brief," he told People magazine.
