What was your life like growing up ?
Growing up, I was a happy kid and thoroughly spoilt as I was the youngest. And I was always playing with my dolls and doing girly things.
I know your sister is a huge influence on you, tell me about her life and what you have learnt from it?
Debbie was talented and driven to achieve anything she set her mind on. A true A+ character. Being my only sister and having a big age gap between us she guided me in my studies, career and life in general.
What made you enter Miss Sri Lanka?
Because I think this is a prestigious title to hold and I looked forward to the challenge of the competition and experience. Also some of relatives had taken part in pageants before and I was encouraged to give it a shot.
How is to be an aunt and a second mother at the same time?
Actually it’s my mom who mainly looks after the kids and has taken more of that role as a mother. I do my best to help her and I believe and hope I play a significant part in their life by always being there for them.
Do you like to plan things out in detail or be spontaneous?
I like being prepared so that things flow smoothly.
Do you think people can control their destiny?
I don’t think so. As the term destiny means we have no control over our fate and there is a higher power.
What’s the biggest personal change you've ever made?
Due to my experiences the biggest change I have made is not to plan too far ahead as life is very unpredictable. Just to take one day at a time.
What do you like about Christmas, and the best memory you have about Christmas?
I love the fact that Christmas brings out the best in families, friends and society in general. It’s like everybody comes together. And my best memory of Christmas has been the year where I managed to catch a flight to arrive just in time for Christmas breakfast. It was a great surprise for all.
What’s something you wish everyone knew about you?
I would like people to know that I’m an approachable person and I truly value sincere friends.
If…
If you could learn any language fluently what would it be?
Probably Spanish as it sounds interesting and romantic.
If you were famous would you want a statue or a building named after you?
Definitely a building, and especially if it’s built for the good of mankind.
If you were in a band, what instrument/role would you play?
I would love to play the bass guitar and be the lead singer too.
If you could have any feature from an animal what would you want?
I would have to say eyes because of the colours and shapes of them and I wouldn't mind their ability of night vision.
If you had a year off, what would you want to do?
I’m kind of experiencing that year off right now by spending quality time with my family and learning new skills.
If you were to crown a Miss Sri Lanka, who would you pick as your choice?
My good friend Mels who sadly can't compete for the title as she is married.
If you were going to write a book, what would you call it and what would it be about?
The book would be about my career experience whilst travelling the world.
In The Spot
