Full name: Adhisha Harshani Dahanayake
Hometown: Kandy

Passions: Fashion and working out,
Favourite colour: White

Who are your top three lady heroes?
My mom, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe

Who has influenced you the most?
Without a question, my father is the person who influenced my life the most by demonstrating kindness, compassion, empathy, integrity, peace, contentment, calmness even in the face of extreme challenges.

What do you feel is the biggest challenge for 2015 in your life?
Prioritising people and work and making sure everyone is alright while I’m around. This becomes a challenge, given the great load of work I have this year.

What made you bring the concept XXL to Sri Lanka?
A few years, back my husband Priyan Senerath, my brother Demithe Dahanayake and I faced a difficulty of finding must-have trendy plus size clothing for us. It struck us then that there are so many others just like us who are faced with the same problem. The XXL concept evolved as a result of our want to create acceptance for the plus sized folk in our country in the fashion scene.

Who has been your biggest support?
I’d say my biggest supporter has been my late father Shiral Dahanayake. He is the reason I am who I am today. I dearly miss his guidance. Next to him, my husband as well as my busines partner Priyan Senerath and Deminthe Dahanayae strengthened me through the tough times.

What’s the best book you’ve read so far this year?
Power Play by Danielle Steel

What qualities do you look for in the people you hang out with?
The people I hang out with should be liberal, trustworthy, my shoulder to cry on and most importantly the kind of friends that bring out the best in me. I also look for those who will genuinely stick by me at all times and never leave me when times get rough, cause that’s what true friends are there for, right?

How would you describe your personal style?
I’d say I’m the type who’s quick to adapt to styles that come my way. I’m definitely not shy to experiment with clothing. I live by the stance that I only live once. I should make it count.

Your thoughts as someone who went through a weight loss programme.?
Being overweight made me realise that some things may or may not be under our control. It made me feel very strongly about working hard towards changing the way I am to feel better. I feel the big souls out there should feel proud of who they are and never be ashamed. I didn’t feel that way. I just wanted to feel a bit more comfortable, hence I went through strenuous workout sessions. It all depends on you and your will. What do you want? Do just that!

What do you hope to achieve at 50?
Everything I love.

For fun

5 books you should read

Were a bakery, what would you name yourself?
I would name myself ‘Big Crust’ (anything big is better)

Were a superhero?
I’d just be me….

Could eat only one food for the rest of your life?
I would choose to eat almonds maybe, or pistachios !!!! Anything that keeps me healthy…
