In a world where everyone is trying to stand out, and be different, perhaps it’s not surprising that there is not much fondness for black hair. There is a steady stream of people in and out of salons, getting their hair cut and styled and coloured, all in an effort to stand out in a crowd. But lustrous raven tresses are not nearly as boring as people make them out to be. Here is why black hair triumphs over the rest, and why you should go back to black.
1. Black is Always In Style
Black is a color that is completely versatile. Black has never gone out of style and has always been in fashion. Black is the most transitional color in the fashion industry and is in whatever the season or occasion.
While people are shunning their natural black, celebrities in Hollywood and Bollywood have been celebrating their black hair and appreciating the natural look that comes with shiny black hair. Megan Fox, who was voted the sexiest woman in the world in 2008, is an example of a celebrity that has celebrated her black hair. Bollywood's Sridevi, hailed as India's first female superstar, has been maintaining her natural black hair throughout her career in Indian cinema.
2. Black Hair Highlights Your Features Better
Black hair, unlike other lighter hair colours, such as blonde, highlights facial features better. Black shiny hair acts as a frame would around a picture. It would draw more attention to the feature as a frame would to the picture in the center. Better yet, the feature that stands out the most with black hair are your eyes.
Women with brown skin represent a diverse group of women originating from Asia, Africa, Native America and Latin America. South East Asia women are blessed with golden brown skin, best highlighted with shiny black hair.
3. Dark Hair Looks Thicker and More Dense
The world today is stressful and an adverse effect of our busy lives is thinning hair. Sri Lankans, however, are luckier than most, as our thick black hair is stronger and gives a more fuller look in comparison. People with dark hair appear to have thicker, denser hair. What is less know is that some people with naturally black hair, in fact, have thicker hair.
4. Black Hair is Easier to Maintain
The easiest way to have low-maintenance hair is to keep it as natural as possible. The pigment that gives hair its colour is known as Eumelanin or melanin. The darker the hair, the higher the concentration of melanin, therefore, black hair has the highest concentration. The benefit of having excess melanin in hair is it’s less prone to sun damage, which is important to Sri Lankans as we are constantly under the sun.
Sticking to your natural hair colour means that you will never have to worry about your roots showing and you will not have to worry about damages caused by the chemicals in hair dye. Additionally, your natural hair color is the best look as it is more likely to suit your skin tone.
5. Save Money on Expensive Hair Color
A recent study has shown that a girl spends over £751 annually on cuts, color, shampoo, conditioner and styling products. Of course, female hair products do cost more compared to male hair products. Sticking to your natural hair color will require less products for your hair, and less visits to your local salon to get it colored when the roots start showing.
6. Natural Beauty Is a Girl's Best Accessory
According to recent research, changing your appearance with makeup and hair colours, does little to boost a girl's attractiveness. Instead, researchers have identified that the natural look is more important when it comes to how attractive a girl seems to others and herself. While colouring your hair may make you seem more interesting temporarily, it does nothing to highlight a girl's existing features. A girl’s natural features are her natural identity, and therefore, a girl who is confident will never challenge the beauty that was given to her.
